Architectural Advantage

How OpenFileConverter Works

By compiling native Rust codecs to WebAssembly with SIMD acceleration, conversions execute directly inside your browser's V8 isolate — eliminating network roundtrips and cloud storage costs.

01

Instant MIME Sniffing

Magic byte inspection verifies file headers locally in milliseconds before processing begins. Corrupt files and decompression bombs are trapped immediately.

02

Local In-Browser WASM

Multithreaded WebAssembly workers execute transformation loops in client RAM with 0 bytes sent across the network. Zero data leaks, zero server queues.

03

Instant Direct Save

Resulting Blobs are written directly to your local file system via File System Access API. RAM buffers are zeroed immediately upon download completion.

SOC2 Type II & HIPAA Aligned

Zero electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) or personal financial records ever touch centralized database tables or persistent object storage buckets.

Cryptographic Memory Shredding

Once bytes are downloaded, client memory buffers are overwritten with pseudorandom cryptosecure noise via Web Crypto API before garbage collection.

Zero Third-Party Trackers

No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixels, no ad retargeting cookies. We use privacy-preserving self-hosted telemetry with client IP anonymization.

Technical Clarity

Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed architecture, security guarantees, and developer runtime specifications.

How do client-side WebAssembly conversions work without uploading to a server?

We compile high-performance native Rust libraries (such as image-rs, resvg, symphonia, and tesseract-ocr) into WebAssembly binaries using wasm-pack and SIMD vector instructions. Your browser spins up dedicated Web Workers that read your file into RAM via File API and execute bytecode entirely inside your device's V8 isolate. Exactly zero bytes leave your local network.

What happens if my file is too large for browser RAM (>2GB)?

For files that exceed browser isolate memory limits or require heavyweight compute (such as 4K video transcoding or multi-gigabyte STEP 3D CAD meshes), OpenFileConverter seamlessly routes the job to an ephemeral Cloudflare Worker isolate. The Worker processes the stream in memory with a hard 30-second execution ceiling and purges all byte arrays immediately.

Are my files stored on Cloudflare, AWS, or any database?

Never. OpenFileConverter has no persistent disk storage attached to conversion nodes. Cloudflare D1 stores only rate-limiting tokens and ephemeral job UUIDs (with zero filename or content metadata). We maintain a cryptographic shredding log that proves RAM zeroing upon request completion.

What is the difference between client-side Rust WASM and edge remuxing?

WASM transforms file formats that require pixel or token mutation (e.g. converting a PNG raster to SVG vectors, or running OCR on a PDF). Remuxing is container repacking (e.g. moving an H.264 stream from an MKV container into an MP4 container) which copies packet streams directly without re-encoding, finishing in under 15 milliseconds.

How does the 24-Hour Value-Exchange Pass work?

Users who hit free tier rate limits (10 files/day) can choose between subscribing to Pro Edge for $12/mo or unlocking a full 24-hour pass by watching a 15-second rewarded video ad or taking a brief survey. Our edge worker cryptographically signs an HMAC token stored in client localStorage that grants Pro rate limits for 86,400 seconds.

“OpenFileConverter replaced our $3,000/mo centralized converter bill while guaranteeing zero customer medical records ever touch an external disk under HIPAA. The in-browser WebAssembly speed is unreal.”
